World-Class Internet Marketing

ANALYSIS OF MYSPACE.COM'S TRAFFIC GROWTH RESULTS

MySpace went from zero web traffic to becoming a Top 10 site on the Internet within 2.5 years' time - over 1 billion page views per month (source: Alexa.com). MySpace.com is experiencing the fastest rate of sustained web traffic growth ever achieved by any web site on the Internet.

This is not being produced by PPC (pay per click) ads, on-page or off-page SEO efforts (search engine optimization), standard SEM efforts (search engine marketing), affiliate marketing or highly effective direct marketing. It is not being produced by "recognizing the impact of marketing to a young audience" as stated by Geoffrey Mack on Alexa.com's home page. Yes, these factors are helpful, but none of these factors are the primary factor driving MySpace.com's traffic growth. MySpace.com's incredible traffic growth is being driven by one primary factor...

PAGE VIEWS PER VISITOR. Like outstanding customer service in a retail store, a high number of page views per visitor produces business advocates. In retail, customers tell their friends about the outstanding level of customer service or the outstanding "overall store" (a combination of store mission, layout, products, features, customer service and other factors) and their friends visit the retail store. There were no marketing dollars needed to achieve this business growth result. The outstanding customer service also results in a better presentation of the many products offered by the retail store and an increased number of product sales opportunities. For web sites, content and page flows that "work" (matching content with consumer interests and flowing content effectively from one page to the next...while quietly and seamlessly marketing products and services to consumers) result in a high number of page views per visitor and "word of mouse" advertising... which results in increased reach (market share) and increased "reach/visitor". Friends forward web pages to their friends. There are no marketing dollars or efforts needed to achieve this result. When visitors are viewing many pages on a web site, the site earns many income generating opportunities. The site earns increased reach and the site earns customer satisfaction. Brand image is enhanced. Natural web traffic figures are increased. Everything "works" when page views per visitor statistics are outstanding. Page views per visitor is therefore the key to effective business growth on the Internet.

"Killer apps" (like Google's search feature) are highly effective reach generating tools with a "highly usable, built in customer service factor". This enables killer apps to be very effective Reach generating tools - quite different than Reach generating marketing efforts, which usually have very little "built in customer service factor". Spam is an example. Reach generating marketing efforts primarily generate "drive by traffic".

Google's financial and web traffic success are due to the company's development of two killer apps, not one. The Google search feature and  the AdWords program (ads displayed on the right of Google's pages and the pages of other web sites). Still, constantly having to focus on maintaining and increasing reach is basically "dog work" - effort which could be better spent enhancing site content, income generating features and overall business operations. The same goes for SEM, PPC, and direct marketing - all of which are primarily "off page marketing reach" generating tools. 1 effort = 1 result (a sale or a "no sale")...vs. efforts spent increasing page views per visitor, which affect all site visitors in the future...1 effort = many good results.

Sorting keywords in Excel is easy, which is why common SEM type Internet marketing efforts are popular.

A Bruce Lee quote comes to mind: "If mere mechanical efficiency can make everyone a martial artist, then all is well. Unfortunately, combat, like freedom, is something that can not be preconceived."

Page views per visitor cannot be sorted in Excel. It requires extremely advanced customer service "knowledge", knowledge of social trends, deep knowledge of a site's content and products, deep knowledge of core consumer interests, sales skills (mixing content effectively with marketing efforts)...and targeted work efforts to achieve significant results in this area.

MySpace.com's record traffic growth is a result of the site's #1 Ranking among the Top 100 sites on the Internet in Page Views Per Visitor.

MySpace.com is not #1 in any other type of Internet marketing effort.

A detailed analysis of the "reach generating" vs. "page views per visitor generating" marketing efforts of the Top 100 sites on the Internet is listed below.

MySpace.com is likely the #1 Ranked Site within the Top 1000 sites on the Internet in terms of Page Views Per Visitor.

No other site within the Top 100 sites on the Internet (and likely the top 1000 sites on the Internet) is achieving over 30 page views per visitor.

My site, JohnLutz.com, has generated 33.01 Page Views Per Visitor for the last 12 months - higher than all Top 100 sites on the Internet except MySpace.com.

MySpace.com's 3 Month Reach Increase (with minimal effort in this area): 70%
Average 3 Month Reach Increase For The Top 100 Sites on the Internet (all placing extreme effort in this area - except for 5 sites effectively focused on generating page views per visitor and successfully generating over 20 page views per visitor): 30.5%

After recently completing the site's essential content, I'm now beginning to market the site. With a little initial marketing reach work, the site will easily attain significant overall web traffic growth due to the site's extremely high number of page views per visitor.

For my previous employer, Ayurvedaonline.com, I achieved 19 page views per visitor without much site content (about 300 pages) and without many work hours allocated towards achieving this result. The business owner was very focused on direct marketing (reach) rather than building a business which grows by itself (and sells itself) over the Internet. We achieved great results - three to four fold increases in new student enrollments over 2 years' time, but the results could have been drastically higher than this...
MySpace.com type results.

There are many factors enabling my ability to produce an extremely high number of page views per visitor. These factors include knowledge of trends (consumer, healthcare, business, education, Internet, technology, engineering, "social intelligence"), writing skills, sales skills, technical skills, broad interests, a strong curiosity and a driven personality, extremely advanced abstract reasoning skills and other intelligence factors, extensive customer service experience (over 100,000 one on one interactions with consumers during 13 years work with two Fortune 500 companies). See my personal profile and resume sitemap for additional factors enabling this ability.

I can, and have, tried to explain to others how I achieve the incredible business financial results I've produced for my all of my employers. I've taken extensive intelligence type and personality type testing to provide objective documentation in addition to the real world results I've produced for previous employers (2) to demonstrate the factors which allow me to achieve these results. The facts are that:

  1. I can produce an extremely high number of page views per visitor.
  2. This ability factor is the most powerful Internet marketing skill.
  3. This factor is driving the top web traffic growth curve in the history of the Internet.

Ayurvedaonline.com received up to 200,000 page views per month. JohnLutz.com has received up to 25,000 page views per month. The next question is surely, yes, but can he handle a significantly larger site? This is really a question of whether I can handle a large amount of information at once. Whole Foods Market and CompUSA sell 50,000 to 80,000 products each. Effectively selling products involves attaining advanced knowledge of product features and benefits, along with knowledge of competitors' products. See work history and information processing ability demonstrated with through my work WFM and CompUSA - two Fortune 500 companies and advanced knowledge of seven different fields. Yes, I can handle a large amount of information and leadership of a large web site - including leadership of a content category of a Top 5 site on the Internet.

It is not that I do not believe in (or utilize) "marketing reach" and common SEM type marketing efforts. These efforts are definitely helpful. The fact is that I'm extremely skilled in utilizing a natural traffic generation method which is much more effective than the combined efforts of all types of marketing reach efforts combined...
