Listed below are details about my Internet marketing work and my time spent working on the Ayurvedaonline.com web site. These details will help explain periods of outstanding growth and declining growth visible within the site's
"page views per visitor" and "total page view" statistics.
- I worked on the site over a 24 month period, from 6/15/03 to 6/25/05. During this time, I worked part-time for about five months (20 hours per week) and the business was closed for 1 month (including web operations, from 12/15/04 to 1/21/05) while the business owner was in another country teaching students.
- So, it took me about 20 months of full-time work on the project to take the site from non-functional (less than
10 visitors per day, non-functional shopping cart, significantly outdated web content, etc.) to a Top 100,000 site on the Internet (according to Alexa.com; the Top 100,000 link is a picture of the site's Alexa ranking taken 2 months after achieving the Top 100,000 site ranking), and a Top 25 Alternative Medicine Site on the Internet.
- Page views per visitor (and overall web traffic and online sales) were maintained for about 5 months after I stopped work on the site (June 2005) - primarily because the web site and supporting business systems I produced were very well-developed.
- From 11/21/05 through 12/31/05, I did some project completion type work (security measures, employee training, etc.) for the business and additional Internet Marketing. The increases in the site's weekly web traffic while I worked for the business during this time can be seen in December's web traffic stats.
- Statistics for the monthly page views per visitor are available on the web hosting company's traffic software from March 2004 to the present.
- Page views per visitor increases and overall web traffic growth slowed, then decreased during the months of 6/05 to 11/05 because I was no longer working on the site (and no one else was hired and trained to maintain and market the web site).

At this point (March 2005), I had proven my web traffic building skills, page view building skills, and overall business process improvement skills very clearly with nine consecutive months of monthly page view increases on the web site, and generation of significant financial success for the business. I had fixed many operational problems stopping the business from achieving substantial - and exponential - growth. Some of these problems - and the business process improvements I developed - are listed below:
- Networking issues:
-
I rewired the whole network twice; the second time was after an office remodel.
- Data security related problems:
-
The business almost lost all of it's data due to a lack of effective security measures in place before I began work on the project. All business data was maintained (including cleaned of viruses and spyware), further organized and significantly expanded during my time working for the business.
- A lack of effective information management procedures:
-
I produced a new folder structure for all of the business' information (about 90 GB) and enabled hard drive sharing to facilitate success of the business on all levels.
- A lack of prospective new students leads:
-
I installed many new lead generation tools for the business to expand the business' reach, or customer base.
- Ineffective processing of new student leads, and general contact data management concerns:
-
I posted expected procedures and trained the staff and business owners in these methods, then continually insisted on accountability in regards to following the expected procedures. -
I built and managed the business' 9000 member Outlook contact database from scratch.
- The business's brand image needed work:
- I rewrote (co-rewrote) the company's mission statement, course catalog, products catalog, wellness spa brochure, web site content and all other marketing materials. - I constantly worked to improve the company's level of customer service delivered on all levels. - I took the responsibility of responding to all incoming e-mail questions sent to business, to ensure that the bulk of this essential customer service [and marketing] work was completed very effectively.
- Outdated web site content:
-
I updated all of the web site's content (which was 2 years old), fixed the non-functional shopping cart and contact data submittal form, and expanded the site's content from 120 to over 430 pages.
- Zero web marketing programs were in place:
-
I installed many effective web-based marketing programs, optimized the site's pages for search engine recognition, submitted the site to various search engines and educational directories, developed many new, innovative web marketing programs - including an affiliate program for the site, began high-volume e-mail marketing (over 6000 e-mails sent per month), began direct mailing with hardcopy mailers and many other programs.
- Online enrollment was not an option:
-
I developed the school's enrollment process into a web-based method, enabling online enrollment and Internet based marketing for the school's educational programs - while fully developing the school's distance learning program.
- The online store was ineffectively designed
as an income generating tool for the business:
-
I installed many upsells throughout the online store, options to purchase the school's courses online, options to purchase admittance to lecture events, and other high dollar products...raising the average product sale price from $17 to $345.
In April, 2005, I began reducing my hours working on the project, and began preparing to move back to the East coast. I left the project in June, 2005. Over the summer, the school owner reduced his work schedule - primarily due to the incredible success of the business. Recently, a replacement Webmaster/Internet Marketing Director was hired for the site.

Aug. - Nov. page view figures are high due to classes starting in Sept. and Dec. and due to the amount of user preferred content added to the site during the first few months of this year.

Page views per visitor are down due to the holiday season. Visitors (reach) and monthly page views are way up due to: sending an e-newsletter to 5000 contacts; sending a hardcopy mailer to approx. 6500 contacts; and the increased web traffic which regularly occurs during the month of December.

After traveling East at the end of June, 2005, and landing some work there, I stayed on the East coast from the end of June through mid-September. Then, I returned to WA for my belongings and finished up a few other projects in WA (including some work for Ayurvedaonline.com: security work, employee training, and the e-marketing work mentioned above).
My achievements on the project - in terms of web traffic growth, overall business process improvements and overall financial success - were significant. I've been compiling these achievements into a presentable format (and completing short term web projects) since leaving the project in June, 2005.
Final Note: The above web traffic growth could easily have been achieved within about 12 months' time. There were significant work and non-work related obstacles during the time I spent working on this project. The obstacles were more than significant...they were highly challenging. If given the necessary resources, I currently expect to be able to lead any site (with significant content, products or services) to a Top 5000 or Top 1000 site ranking on the Internet (and 5 to 15 million page views per month) within 12-18 months' time.
